New Shooting Range Opens in Eatonton

 

A new shooting range at Cedar Creek Wildlife Management Area will be available beginning Friday, October 14, 2011 for those interested in perfecting their target skills. 

That's according to a Georgia Department of Natural Resources news release.

While this is the first shooting range located at the Cedar Creek WMA, it is one of 17 shooting ranges currently available on public land in Georgia.

The new range is located in the Georgia Piedmont near Eatonton.

The Cedar Creek Shooting Range consists of a 10-position, 100-yard rifle/pistol range.

Visitors' Bureau Hosts Haunted Trolley Tours

The tours will be creeping through the streets of Milledgeville, Georgia with two tours each night, one at 6:30 p.m. and one at 8:30 pm. from October 17-20, 2011 and October 24-27, 2011.

 The ghosts of times past will once again come to life as visitors come aboard the trolley.  This year's event will once again bring back the every-popular "adults only" tour.  The latter tour will feature stories and characters that might not be suitable for the faint of heart.  Tickets go on sale Monday, October 3, 2011 at 9:00 a.m. at the Milledgeville-Baldwin County CVB on 200 West Hancock Street in Milledgeville, GA.  For ticket information call the Milledgeville Baldwin County CVB at 800-653-1804, 478-452-4687 or www.visitmilledgeville.org.

  • Our Cotton Pickin' Christmas Tree Farm, Hawkinsville. Check their Facebook page for updates.Pick your own pumpkin from the patch. Also enjoy cider or cocoa on the porch while the kids climb the hay mountain. Open 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Early September Marks Dove Season Opener

Hunters statewide can celebrate the beginning of dove season at noon Saturday, Sept. 3.

That's according to a Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) news release.

The official 2011-2012 dove seasons are Sept. 3-18, Oct. 8-16 and Nov. 24 - Jan. 7. Shooting hours are noon until sunset on opening day (Sept.3) of the first season and one-half hour before sunrise to sunset for the remaining two seasons. Sunrise and sunset times for each day are found in the 2011-2012 Georgia Hunting Seasons and Regulations guide or online at www.georgiawildlife.com .

The daily bag limit is 15 doves per hunter. Additionally, there have been some reports of white-winged doves in Georgia.  White-winged doves may be harvested, but count toward the daily bag limit of 15.
