Annual Mayors' Motorcade Returns

 

MILLEDGEVILLE, GA – Central State Hospital celebrates the 53rd Anniversary of the Mayors’ Motorcade on December 6, 2011.

The festivities will begin with the receiving of gifts from 8:00 a.m. until noon at the Nursing Home Center building on Central State’s campus.

A parade starts at 12:30 p.m. throughout campus to celebrate the holiday and end with a musical performance by staff and individuals at the hospital at 1:30 p.m. in the Auditorium. An encore performance will be held at 7 p.m. All of the events are free and open to the public.

Grammy-award winning singer Lee Greenwood will perform at Georgia College on Saturday, Nov. 19 to support the university’s fundraising efforts.

Sponsored by The President’s Society of Georgia College, “A Magical Evening with Lee Greenwood” is limited to 200 people in the Magnolia Ballroom of the GC Student Activities Center, 230 W. Hancock St. at 6:30 p.m.  Tickets are $150 per person for dinner and the concert.

Proceeds will support need-based scholarships for deserving Georgia College students.

Twice named Male Vocalist of the Year by the Country Music Association, Greenwood is best known for his song “God Bless the U.S.A.,” which was voted the most recognizable patriotic song in America.  A high energy entertainer, Greenwood just released a new seven-song collection, “I Want to be in Your World.”

First Friday: Give Thanks Downtown

 

Downtown Milledgeville hosts First Friday, November 4 with the  theme, "Give Thanks."

Attendees will have the opportunity to listen to Jerry Atkins playing the guitar and the 128/80 Band featuring Randy Newton.

The featured artist of the month is Crystal Wagner featuring her formal approach. A combination of drawing, printmaking, collage and sculpture, and an appreciation of the idea of context as it relates to form. Her work and more detailed information about her can be found on her website, crystalwagner.com.

Kids will also have several activities at Give Thanks Downtown to keep them entertained.

The R. Stanley Sketchbook Activity Corner for Kids will be offering a coloring contest, candle bag decorating, and ‘I am thankful for’ feather decorating.
