Georgia College Offers Junior Basketball League

Georgia College women’s basketball team invites local boys and girls to the second season of the Junior Bobcat Basketball League (JBBL), a GCSU news release says.

The camp introduction and clinic will be held from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21 Centennial Center, with an hour of games following from 4 to 5 p.m.

League practices and games are scheduled for 2:30 to 5 p.m. Aug. 28, Sept. 11, Sept. 25 and Oct. 2.

The JBBL’s goal is to teach the fundamentals of the game, create a positive experience and develop an interest for the game of basketball.

The junior players will enjoy 5-v-5 games against players in their own age group, coached by players on Bobcat women’s basketball team.

GCSU Graduate to Play in Hooters' Tour

Georgia College and State University graduate Joe Young is set to play in the Hooters' tour in Hawkinsville this weekend.

Send Off for Softball State Champs

A celebration takes place today for two softball teams: 10U and 15U. Both teams are state champs in Dixie Youth Fastpitch Softball.

The event takes place at Walter B Williams Recreation Department at 6 p.m. The event features a raffle for $2500.

The girls will be honored with a plaque and a proclamation day will also be declared for the girls.

The softball teams leave Thursday to play in the World Series in South Hill Virginia.

Poker Run Proceeds to Benefit Life Enrichment Center

The Poker Run takes place Saturday, July 16.

Registration is at 9 a.m. and kick stands go up at 11 a.m.

The starting line is at Life Enrichment Center.

The first hand is $20 and each additional hand is $10. All proceeds go to Life Enrichment Center, a nonprofit organization that supports individuals with developmental disabilities.

Nature Near You

Sounds silly to have to seek out nature when it appears to be all around us.

But www.naturefind.com has taken it upon themselves to be searchable so that you can find nature near you, where you can enjoy it. (Driving by a crowd of pine trees on your way to work doesn't count, sorry.)

I searched Macon, Ga and found the following day-trip type adventures within 40 miles:
