Milledgeville Main Street Receives 2011 National Accreditation

Milledgeville Main Street Receives 2011 National Accreditation

 Milledgeville Main Street has been designated as an accredited National Main Street program for 2011.

That's according to a Milledgeville Main Street news release.

Milledgeville Main Street receives the national accreditation for meeting the national commercial district revitalization performance standards.

The organization’s performance is annually evaluated by Georgia Department of Community Affairs, which works in partnership with the National Trust Main Street Center to identify the local programs that meet 10 performance standards. 

 

Over the past year, Milledgeville Main Street has implemented a new monthly event First Friday, put on another Deep Roots Festival, inspired downtown investment, completed another fruitful season of the Farmers’ Market and more.

First Friday: Give Thanks Downtown

First Friday: Give Thanks Downtown

 

Downtown Milledgeville hosts First Friday, November 4 with the  theme, "Give Thanks."

Attendees will have the opportunity to listen to Jerry Atkins playing the guitar and the 128/80 Band featuring Randy Newton.

The featured artist of the month is Crystal Wagner featuring her formal approach. A combination of drawing, printmaking, collage and sculpture, and an appreciation of the idea of context as it relates to form. Her work and more detailed information about her can be found on her website, crystalwagner.com.

Kids will also have several activities at Give Thanks Downtown to keep them entertained.

The R. Stanley Sketchbook Activity Corner for Kids will be offering a coloring contest, candle bag decorating, and ‘I am thankful for’ feather decorating.

Huddle House Agrees to Comply with Minimum Wage Law

 

ATLANTA – The U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division has identified significant violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act and has obtained remedies for them at 28 Huddle House restaurants in Georgia, Missouri and West Virginia. Corporate franchisor Huddle House Inc. has agreed to facilitate compliance among all its franchisee-operated restaurants as well as to assist the division in promoting industrywide compliance with the FLSA.

That's according to a U.S. Department of Labor news release.

In addition, minimum and overtime back wages totaling $60,594 will be paid to 128 employees. Finally, the division assessed $48,317 in civil money penalties for repeat and child labor violations.

Distilling Company Announces Products

Georgia Distilling Company is set to announce their two new products in an Atlanta news conference Tuesday.

This comes after the company recently claimed its home on Blandy Way in Milledgeville.

The new products are called "Goodtime Moonshine": one is vodka, one is moonshine.

According to a news release, country musician Colt Ford will be promoting Goodtime Moonshine in albums and on tour.

Ford is from Athens, Ga.
