Active Minerals Receives Training | Schools
GORDON, GA - Active Minerals in Gordon, Georgia, recently upgraded the control systems in their Kaolin processing plant to utilize Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation Control Logix hardware and RSLogix 5000 software. These upgrades, while reducing downtime and increasing productivity, left a training gap.
The Continuing Education Department at Oconee Fall Line Technical College (OFTC) helped Active Minerals bridge that gap by offering a 24-hour PLC (Programmable Logical Control) training course to eleven members of their industrial maintenance staff.
“This course provided an overview of the hardware and software utilized in the production line upgrades,” explained Lee Radney, an instructor for OFTC's electronics programs.
“Participating students were able to gain valuable knowledge through classroom lecture, video and a hands-on simulator which provided real world programming skills,” continued Radney. “Through this instruction, students were able to first learn, then apply, the programming knowledge to various process scenarios. As a result, the knowledge they gained in the classroom could be transferred seamlessly to the production environment.”
