Welcome Back, Students!

In just a few short weeks, college students from all over the state of Georgia (and beyond!) will descend upon the campuses of Georgia College and Georgia Military College.

As a community, we want to make them feel welcomed, but how? Since I am a student of Georgia College, I thought I'd share some of the things that have made me feel welcomed home in the past.

Let us know about volunteer opportunities that have developed over the summer. If you're affiliated with an organization or a business that would benefit from student volunteers, let us know. Many students are looking for something to which they may devote their attention during a study break and in order to remain well-rounded. Some of my favorite experiences have come from the Life Enrichment Center here in Milledgeville, and the experiences there could be applied to a variety of majors!

On July 26, 1990, the Americans with Disabilities Act was signed into law by President George H.W. Bush to provide equal opportunities for individuals with disabilities in the areas of employment, education, and day-to-day living, as well as to prohibit discrimination against people with disabilities. As we approach the 22nd anniversary of the legislation, let's strive to make Milledgeville an open and inviting community for all people, including those affected by disability. But how?

Five practical courtesies will show that you care to make Milledgeville the place to live, work, and thrive for individuals with disabilities in the state of Georgia.
