Survivors of Suicide Support Group Meets

The Survivors of Suicide Support Group will meet Monday, March 28 from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.

The group, presented by the Oconee Suicide Prevention Coalition, meets on the fourth Monday of each month.

The group serves as an opportunity for people who have lost a loved one to suicide to connect with other survivors.

The meetings take place at River Edge Behaviorial Center on Blandy Way in Milledgevile.

Job Fair Comes to Downtown Milledgeville

A one-stop shop job fair will take place this weekend in Milledgeville.

Workshops on job-hunting will be available as well as businesses with job applications will be on hand.

Regional Democrats will provide the venue. The event is free and open to the public.

"We just want to help folks get jobs," explained Fred Ward of Putnam County, chairman of the Central Georgia Democratic Coalition. "Our first Job Fair in Milledgeville a year ago was a great success, but this area is still suffering. We can help to alleviate the problem by bringing job information and other help to the job-seekers."

Co-hosted by the Young Democrats of America of Georgia College and State University (GCSU), the Job Fair will take place this Saturday, March 19, in downtown Milledgeville in the Arts and Sciences Building of GCSU.

March First Friday: 'I'rish I Was Downtown'

Milledgeville's second First Friday is scheduled for Friday, March 4 with the theme: “I’rish I was
downtown.”

The First Fridays Committee, has planned a First Friday Art Walk planned, a Digital Bridges news release says.

The focus of First Fridays is to celebrate the diversity of art in Milledgeville: painting, drawing, ceramics, music, theatre,
photography, literature, culinary and so much more. Roughly 40 downtown merchants will be
participating by inviting artists to display their talents in their businesses.

We are nearing the halfway point of the 2011 Legislative Session. While there is much left to do, we are fulfilling our constitutional obligations and working diligently to represent you. This week, we passed some very important legislation that balances our budget for the rest of Fiscal Year 2011 and ensures that we can handle leaner budget years. A bill was also introduced to reform the HOPE Scholarship Program, ensuring its survival.

Public Invited to SPLOST Presentation

The Baldwin County Board of Commissioners and the Milledgeville City Council invite voters and community members to learn more about the projects proposed for funding through the renewal of the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) during a presentation at 7 p.m., Thursday, March 3 in the Knight Community Innovation Center (Digital Bridges).

During the presentation, representatives from both local governments will present the projects being put forth for funding through the renewal of the SPLOST sales tax.

Following the presentations, residents are encouraged to pose their questions about the projects proposed for funding through the SPLOST and the SPLOST taxing mechanism itself.

The event will be held at Little Fishing Creek in Milledgeville.
