Ga. Power to Close Two Lake Sinclair Coal Units | News
Title (Max 100 Characters)
Georgia Power wants to shut down two coal-burning units on Lake Sinclair in Putnam County.
They say they plan to ask the Georgia Public Service Commission for permission to close two of the four units at Plant Branch.
The request to decertify Units One and Two will be included in the company's integrated resource plan. They plan to file it with the commission this summer.
They say it would not be economical to keep the units open and install new environmental controls that are now required and others that may be required soon.
The plants are scheduled to close in 2013. So far, there's no word on how many jobs would be affected.
