Andalusia Farm Blog: A Place Like No Other

It is really exciting to work at a place that has so much energy. This energy comes from the history, the landscape, and most of all the passion from all the visitors. I find it absolutely amazing that these people from different places from all over the world can all be united by one person – Miss Flannery O’Connor. Getting to meet these diverse people with so much love for Flannery O’Connor and writing is so enjoyable, and they make me have an even greater appreciation of writing.

Andalusia Farm Blog: Off On the Right Foot

Today marks the end of my second week at Andalusia, out of the ten weeks I’ll be working here. It’s remarkable how much I’ve already learned historically and technically. I did a video production experiment yesterday with April Moon, the operations and visitor services manager, that required me to sit in the back of her hatchback SUV and film the green canopied driveway. I call it an experiment because I didn’t know how it was going to turn out with all the pebbles and gravel crunching under the tires. It was a success, and a good thing too, because that clip will be seen at the beginning of every Andalusia Youtube video... Read More

Andalusia Farm Blog: Aren’t you ashamed?

One scene in A Good Man Is Hard to Find turned me into a lifelong Flannery O’Connor fan. The family takes a break from its ill-fated trip to stop at The Tower, a roadside filling station and dance hall run by a fat man named Red Sammy Butts.  Once inside, the family orders barbecue sandwiches and the little girl, June Star, starts to tap dance.
"Ain't she cute?" Red Sam's wife said, leaning over the counter. "Would you like to come be my little girl?"
"No I certainly wouldn't," June Star said. "I wouldn't live in a broken-down place like this for a million bucks!" and she ran back to the table.
"Ain't she cute?" the woman repeated, stretching her mouth politely.
"Aren't you ashamed?" hissed the grandmother.
It sounded exactly like my life... Read More
