Racial Slur Written on Baldwin Co. Street Sign

A "children at play" sign off of Meriweather Road in Baldwin County had the word "children" blacked out and it was replaced with the n-word.

Emily Davis, a Baldwin County Commissioner, said that she received a phone call from someone in the neighborhood about the sign.

She said she saw the sign hanging on the post herself early Saturday afternoon and was taken aback.

"I'm like you must be kidding not, we've had racial problems, we've had a history of racial problems here in Baldwin County, and racial issues are not dead anywhere, it's just that I hope they are not trying to raise their head again," said Davis.

She called Baldwin County Sheriff's office who removed the sign within a hour or two.

Baldwin County Sheriff's Office said they are investigating the incident, and have not found the person or persons responsible yet.

They said whoever did this would face a charge of interference of government property.
