Georgia College Celebrates Constitution Week

In celebration of the U.S. Constitution’s 224th anniversary, Georgia College will honor the basic law of the United States.

That's according to a Georgia College news release.

Gary. J. Simson, dean of Mercer University School of Law, will provide the keynote address at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, in the Student Activities Center Magnolia Ballroom.

Simson joined the faculty of Mercer University School of Law in 2010. He earned a bachelor of arts degree summa cum laude in 1971 from Yale College and his J.D. at Yale Law School in 1974. He began his teaching career at the University of Texas School of Law in 1975 and subsequently held positions at Cornell Law School and Case Western Reserve University School of Law before coming to Mercer.

The address is sponsored by the Department of Government and Sociology and the American Democracy Project at Georgia College.

Constitution Week activities also include a video montage of Constitutional impressions at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15 in the Library & Instructional Technology Center atrium and Books & Brews.

The video will offer “person on the campus” interviews about the U.S. Constitution followed by a group discussion. The event is sponsored by Pi Sigma Alpha Political Science Honor Society and the Criminal Justice Club at Georgia College.
