Professional Photographer Exhibit in Milledgeville | Arts & Culture
Title (Max 100 Charaters)
An exhibition of works by photographer Alan McGee will open Sunday, February 19 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at the Marlor Center Gallery, 201 North Wayne Street, Milledgeville. At 2:00 pm McGee will present a gallery lecture “Art, Fun, & Profit Photographs” and discuss his work. The public is invited to the opening reception.
Alan McGee is an award winning artist whose works have been published in numerous architectural magazines and exhibited in the High Museum of Art and the Georgia Artist Exhibition. He attended the School of Architecture at Georgia Institute of Technology, earned a B. S. from the Rochester Institute of Technology and a Masters of Photography from the Professional Photographers of America. McGee is a lifetime member of the American Society of Magazine Photographers and served as president of the southeast chapter from 1980-1982.
He served as a judge in the 1983 Kodak/Disney Epcot Exhibition.
McGee’s background in both architecture and photography naturally led him to the field of architectural photography. He specialized in the photography of exterior and interior spaces and is particularly well-known for his ability to photograph large spaces with difficult lighting situations. The exhibit in Milledgeville will feature works from his thirty year career as a professional architectural photographer as well as his more contemporary images that he refers to as “the fun stuff”. According to McGee, “The fun stuff is what I would photograph if no one was paying me, like family vacation photos and those of my son. I have found that the fun photographs became big sellers”.
McGee attributes the quality of his work to being a combination of close attention to the smallest details such as exact camera placement and lighting. He says, “I try to follow the ‘if in doubt, take it out’ rule.”
The Marlor House gallery hours are Monday – Friday, 9:00 am – 4:30 pm or by appointment.
There is no admission fee charged to visit the gallery. The exhibition will be on display through Friday, March 16. Call Allied Arts at 478-452-3950 or visit milledgevillealliedarts.com for more information.
