September's First Friday: Taste of Milledgeville | Arts & Culture
Milledgeville, GA- Get your taste buds ready, the second annual Taste of Milledgeville is on its way! Taste of Milledgeville will offer food samples from many different restaurants in Baldwin County, giving Taste attendees a wide variety of samples to choose from. The event will take place during the September First Friday event on September 6th from 6-8:30pm. In case of rain, a rain date has been set for September 13th. Mark your calendar food lovers this isn’t going to be a First Friday to miss!
Last year Taste of Milledgeville rose over $3000 for Milledgeville Main Street, a non-profit organization that was created for the preservation and enhancement of our City’s Center. This year the First Friday Committee is hoping to increase that amount to continue to grow First Fridays as well as expand their efforts in the community. Just like last year each taste will cost one ticket. Tickets for the event will be $1 each and Taste attendees can purchase as many or as few tickets as they would like. Tickets will be available for purchase the day of at the event right outside the Post Office parking lot and on the south side of West Hancock Street.
Restaurants will be setup all over downtown including in the Post Office parking lot. The First Friday committee wanted to make this Taste of Milledgeville even more enjoyable than the first year. Tables and chairs will be setup in the parking lot along with live music from the Fall Line Ramblers. The Oconee Regional Medical Center Kid’s Corner will have an activity for the children as well. Each Taste attendee will be asked to cast their vote as to which restaurant had the ‘Best Presentation’, ‘Best Taste’ and ‘Restaurant of the Year’.
The Hairbar will be having a grand opening celebration along with a ladies night. There will be cocktails, apps and a DJ to enjoy. Just for walking in the door that night you will be entered into a raffle for a gift basket valued at over $100.
At 7:30pm make your way down to Allen’s Market to enjoy a concert from Heart Pine, a bluegrass band based in Central Georgia. Tickets for the performance are $10.00 each and can be purchased at the Marlor House from 9-4:30pm Monday-Friday or online at www.milledgevillealliedarts.com
The Lemon Tree will be hosting the Animal Rescue Foundation, a non-profit tax exempt humane society serving central Georgia. ARF's main purposes include finding responsible permanent homes as family pets for abandoned animals, encouraging spaying and neutering of all pets, and educating the public on the proper care and treatment of animals. ARF will have some of their fur babies available for adoption.
Be sure to swing by the Fall Line Farmers Market before you head home for fresh produce, baked goodies and so much more. Local Milledgeville, singer/songwriter/pianist, Marcia Henry will serenade the crowds with her southern gospel music.
