Milledgeville, GA- School spirit will be in the air during the August First Friday event and the whole community is invited to the Pep Rally to help kick off the new school year. First Friday will take place on August 2nd from 6-9pm in downtown Milledgeville with something for everyone to enjoy.

Come out and meet the Baldwin County School Board! Members of the school board will be in the Post Office parking lot from 6-8pm chatting with First Friday goers. Feel free to ask them questions or just get to know them a little bit better.

At 6:30 the Community Pep Rally will start with an opening from the Baldwin Matching Pride showing off some of their favorite chants and cheers. Cheerleaders from Baldwin High School, John Milledge Academy and Georgia Military College will participate in a friendly cheer-off. Each squad will be raising money to go toward their squad. The winner of the cheer-off will receive a First Friday megaphone and bragging rights for the year!

The Oconee Regional Medical Center Kids Corner will have coloring sheets with each of the school’s mascot for the kids to decorate and be displayed downtown. They will also have a variety of games to play with First Friday prizes.

The Mary Vinson Memorial Library will be coordinating a used book sale at Digital Bridges to help raise money for the upcoming Georgia Literary Festival, which Milledgeville will host in the fall. The book sale will take place from 6-8pm with the price of books only $1 to $2. Along with the book sale will be a book signing. Dianna Knox Cooper was raised in the small town of Glenwood, Georgia; she is a wife of 23 years and mother of three, two sons and one daughter as well as a survivor of child, sexual and spousal abuse. Dianna is a certified W.A.I.T (Why AM I Tempted) Trainer and she participates in speaking engagements to both abused adult and youth groups. She is the author of her newly released book "Hated Without A Cause."

Also being hosted at Digital Bridges is the Oconee Regional Symphony Orchestra. ORSO is a volunteer based orchestra that is made up of string, woodwind, brass and percussion players. The orchestra will have an information table setup about their upcoming open auditions.

The Lemon Tree will be celebrating their first birthday bash during First Friday with a new loyalty program, door prizes, giveaways, a raffle and a live remote with Z-97. The Lemon Tree will also be hosting the Animal Rescue Foundation with several animals available for adoption.

The Fall Line Farmers’ Market will be held at the First Presbyterian Church with locally grown produce, baked goods, and more. Big Mike and the Booty Papas will be providing live entertainment for the market goers to enjoy. Stop by from 4-8pm.

With rain putting a damper of the last two First Friday events the First Friday Committee has decided that First Friday will be cancelled if raining. For additional information about First Friday please contact Carlee or Deana at the Main Street Office 478-414-4014.
