Downtown Development Authority Launches Small Business Incentive Program

In celebration of Georgia’s Small Business week, the Downtown Development Authority/ Milledgeville Main Street is happy to announce a new incentive program to downtown Milledgeville called BOOST. This Downtown Development Authority Program is designed to assist small businesses and entrepreneurs in the downtown Milledgeville area with funding needs.

The DDA values the dedication and spirit of local business owners in our community and recognizes the contribution they make to our local economy. Small businesses are the backbone of our community and this program will help to ensure that they continue to thrive.

BOOST is a downtown Milledgeville investment group that will provide grant money to small business owners and entrepreneurs in downtown. A group of investors will donate $100 twice a year to help fund the program. The money will go into a fund housed with DDA/Main Street.

Once a quarter the investment group will get together to review the grant request and vote who will be receiving grants and the amounts of each grant. The grant amounts will be in increments of at least $100 and the maximum awarded would be $1,000.

The DDA is asking for at least a two year commitment from the investment group members.  So over the 2 year period the investors would be donating $400 to help improve downtown and infuse some much needed capital into the city.  There will be no limit on the number of investors accepted into the group and investors can join at any time as long as they are willing to make the minimum two year commitment.

Other than a start-up meeting and meeting quarterly to make the grant decisions—there would not be a huge time commitment for the members. Members would also have the ability to vote via email--- they would not be required to attend the meetings in person. We want to make this initiative affordable for community members of all ages. We want to be inclusive, not exclusive.

Initially the DDA would focus on supporting Downtown Businesses and Entrepreneurship, but if this takes off the DDA could certainly consider expanding their focus.  The details and an unveiling of the BOOST web site will be presented at the first meeting on June 12th at 8:30AM at Digital Bridges.

The DDA thinks it is time to show some action and this would be a first small step in the right direction to send the message that small business owners and entrepreneurs are extremely important to Downtown Milledgeville!

Anyone who is interested in joining the investment group or has questions about the group can contact the Downtown Development Authority/ Milledgeville Main Street at 478-414-4014.
