State Will Close Milledgeville Men's Prison

Another hundred jobs will leave Baldwin County at the end of the month, as the state Department of Corrections plans to close another prison.

On December 1, Men's State Prison will be the fifth state corrections facility in the area to close in two years.

The Dept. of Corrections says the building is old and outdated, requires too many people to staff and lacks modern safety features.

The state says closing the 650-bed prison will save about $10.3 million a year.

In May, Bostick State Prison closed.

Three Milledgeville Streets to Close for Rail Work

Milledgeville City Marshal Jack Graham says North Jefferson Street, North Wayne Street, and Clark Street will close for up to two days starting 7 a.m. Monday.

CSX Railroads is upgrading and repairing the railroad crossings at all three intersections.
